After locating a body in the northern suburbs Thursday morning, police are tentatively identifying it as the body of a missing Waukegan police officer.
Peter Michaels, 44, was last seen Tuesday around 9:30 p.m. at his home in Antioch. A search began Wednesday morning by Antioch police, volunteers and other assisting agencies.
At 9:15 a.m. Thursday, a body was located in the woods north of North and Trevor avenues in Antioch. Antioch police have since turned the case over to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department for further investigation.
Antioch police would not speculate as to the manner of death, but said Michaels had left his car and belongings behind at his house.
